Enfolding and Unfolding Your Potential

I love to talk about entanglement the idea that everything is connected in such a way that all is one and one is all. It also encompasses a plethora of other quantum magical phenomenon like non-locality, the holographic mind and so much more. Simply put a quote by phycisist P. H. Tigua helps get a grasp on entanglement:

“… When certain particles come together in a certain way, they seem to meet.. then .. they are entangled forever. Not only are they entangled forever, but no matter where they are in the universe, they will always ‘know’ about eachother. When you know what happens to one particle, whether it’s that you know spin direction or momentum, or whatever, you automatically know the trait that the other particle is going to take on, and that’s an amazing thing.”

and

“Classical physics says that reality is actually little particles that separate the world into its independent elements. Now I’m proposing the reverse, that the fundamental reality is the enfoldment and unfoldment, and these particles are abstractions from that. We could picture the electron not as a particle that exists continuously but as something coming in and going out and then coming in again. If these various condensations are close together, they approximate a track. The electron itself can never be separated from the whole of space, which is its ground.“  (David Bohm, phycisist extraordinaire)

How magical! Once entangled those particles forever more will remain in sync, in agreement and what happens to one happens to the other!

Now as amazing as that is I want to talk about another aspect of the magical quantum organisation, enfoldment and what this means to you.

Enfoldment is best explained by David Bohm, one of my all time favourite quantum phycisists, he says:

“Everybody has seen an image of enfoldment: You fold up a sheet of paper, turn it into a small packet, make cuts in it, and then unfold it into a pattern. The parts that were close in the cuts unfold to be far away. This is like what happens in a hologram. Enfoldment is really very common in our experience. All the light in this room comes in so that the entire room is in effect folded into each part. If your eye looks, the light will be then unfolded by your eye and brain. As you look through a telescope or a camera, the whole universe of space and time is enfolded into each part, and that is unfolded to the eye. With an old-fashioned television set that’s not adjusted properly, the image enfolds into the screen and then can be unfolded by adjustment.“

Just imagine that you are that piece of paper when you are folded you are closed and cannot see your full potential, most of us are in this state from childhood and most of us get tighter as we age. When we are younger we are more unfolded and we often get premonitions of how magical we are, I remember thinking at the age of five that I KNEW I was here to to something important and that I was magical, I knew I could do magic! Can you remember thinking something similar?

Some of us never get more closed with time, the lucky ones live a life that supports their unfoldment, some of us experience an awakening where an event of some kind begins the process of us remembering that we have a whole pattern inside our folds and this kick starts our unfoldment. We begin to loosen up, to lighten up and soon the beautiful patterns built into our being begins to emerge like a beautiful butterflies wings from a chrysalis.

Most of the time others see our potential long before we do, as they are able to see the pattern emerge before we can find the mirror we need to see it ourselves.

During our lives many things can ‘happen’ to us, these events are there to help us unfold, sometimes we get frightened and close up again, but the potential is still there, it is always there and it is never too late to unfold. How can I know this for sure? Because it is a scientific certainty!

David Bohm explains it beautifully:

“There is… a device that illustrates these things very well. It consists of two concentric glass cylinders. Between them is a viscous fluid, such as glycerin. If a drop of insoluble ink is placed in the glycerin and the outer cylinder is turned slowly, the drop of dye will be drawn out into a thread. Eventually the thread gets so diffused it cannot be seen. At that moment there seems to be no order present at all. Yet if you slowly turn the cylinder backward, the glycerin draws back into its original form, and suddenly the ink drop is visible again. The ink had been enfolded into the glycerin, and it was unfolded again by the reverse turning.”

This shows that both realities are present at all times the reality of what Bohm calls the ‘implicate order‘ as when the drop is enfolded and cannot really be seen and the ‘explicate order’ as when the drop can be clearly seens and even expanded into a pattern as you continue to turn the cylinder in that direction. Turn the cylinder in the other direction and the pattern and the drop will disappear once again and the potential of the pattern will no longer be visible.

The magic for you is clear, at all time the reality of your potential is real, it is not alway in evidence and cannot always be seen, but it is always there. You are in charge of your potential you decide whether it can be seen, how much of your potential to reveal and how far you will unfold. YOU!

However one thing is completely true at all times your potential, your magic is waiting to make an appearance and the reality is that your potential is infinite as there is no limit to the times the cylinder can be turned and how far the drop will expand. It is a scientific reality!

Now as your reading this I can almost hear your thoughts, a drop cannot be infinite – how can that one drop be unfolded an infinite number of times?

Well for one thing we are not talking about an actual physical drop, and for another we are talking about entanglement and this means that all are one and one is all. Let’s see if Bohm can help explain this even further;

“Much of our experience suggests that the implicate order is natural for understanding consciousness: When you are talking to somebody, your whole intention to speak enfolds a large number of words. You don’t choose them one by one. There are any number of examples of the implicate order in our experience of consciousness. Any one word has behind it a whole range of meaning enfolded in thought.

Consciousness is unfolded in each individual. Clearly, it’s shared between people as they look at one object and verify that it’s the same. So any high level of consciousness is a social process. There may be some level of sensorimotor perception that is purely individual, but any abstract level depends on language, which is social. The word, which is outside, evokes the meaning, which is inside each person.

Meaning is the bridge between consciousness and matter. Any given array of matter has for any particular mind a significance. The other side of this is the relationship in which meaning is immediately effective in matter. Suppose you see a shadow on a dark night. If it means “assailant,” your adrenaline flows, your heart beats faster, blood pressure rises, and muscles tense. The body and all your thoughts are affected; everything about you has changed. If you see that it’s only a shadow, there’s an abrupt change again.

That is an example of the implicate order: Meaning enfolds the whole world into me, and vice versa-that enfolded meaning is unfolded as action, through my body and then through the world. The word hormone means “messenger,” that is, a substance carrying some meaning. Neurotransmitters carry meaning, and that meaning profoundly affects the immune system. This understanding could be the beginning of a different attitude to mind-and to life.”

Your consciousness is an infinite drop because it is tapped into the consciousness of the whole universe, meaning that you are able to tap into the infinite potential of the whole universe at any time, once you have grasped this. Once you have gotten past your own limited thinking and beliefs you are infinitely magical and can do anything! Yes you!

One thing I wan’t to add here and this is something I will expand on in another post as it is a really big subject and it is also one that can be quite confronting for most people, “Nothing has any meaning unless and until you give it meaning.” (Masters of Chaos, Annie Infinite, 2006 unpublished)

I wanted to add this quote from my yet unfinished book because Bohm mentioned meaning, the things that give our lives meaning are all sorts of things we believe  – we may believe we are limited and many of our thoughts about ourselves may be about these limits. We may not believe we are good enough, or as good at something as someone else, as we grow these change and we can begin to see that we are more than we thought we were.

The truth is that we are unimaginably, infinitely amazing because we are just an expression of the universe, we are different only by our personal talents, gifts and passions. It is not that we are incapable of anything, it is that we are more inclined to be successful at certain things because the universe wants to express itself in those ways through the vehicle of this entity that is you. This is your purpose, this is who you are – to be the best You, you can be – to allow the universe to express itself through your unique potential. The universe chose you to be who you are with your characteristics, your personality, your gifts, talents and passions so that it could express this aspect of its infinite self through you.

Be all you can be! You are wonderous, awesome, and expansive just as the universe is for you and the universe are one – wonderous you, awesome you, wholy you.
