I came across this book by Debbie Ford and decided to share what I feel are the some of the most important questions you can ask yourself. Asking yourself questions is the key to getting the life of your dreams as it helps you to cut through all your own blocks and boundaries, you know the ones; those boundaries that produce the thoughts of doubt and disbelief just when you want to move forward in life and create a different result.
I have used these kinds of questions for most of my life to get clear around my own ‘stuff’ (very technical word stuff) and spend an entire 3 months asking myself, “What’s my motivation for saying this.” before I spoke. Yes, it did make life a little difficult, but it was worth it as I found out so much about my motivations and the beliefs they were steeped in and of course I consequently knew a lot more about myself and where I was stuck.
Try it sometime!
It works like this; when you are having a conversation with someone, anyone, before you speak ask yourself in your head, “What’s my motivation for saying this.” and allow the answer to bubble up from within. I found out that a lot of what I said was ego based and fear based even though it came out in the form of sensible conversation. I had to come to grips with the fact I was not as confident as I appeared and a lot more needy than I ever gave out. This one act changed me deeply forever and now I balance it, I acknowledge when I am feeding my ego to myself and sometimes I allow it and sometimes I don’t.
I know, I know you thought I was going to say I never feed my ego any more – lol weren’t you. However, you know it is all about balance and at times just like indulging a child through kindness it can help us to whether life to indulge our ego every now and then. I have found that as a result of this one act over a 3 month period I am now a better listener, I now understand my needs a lot better, I now actively create time in my conversations for natural lulls without needing to fill every gap with sound… So many small insights just from one question actively applied.
Now to Debbie Fords 10 Most Important Questions. I love them and I know you will too.
Debbie has written a book about these questions called “The Right Questions” by Debbie Ford available at Amazon.com
The Right Questions:
- Will this choice propel me toward an inspiring future or will it keep me stuck in the past?
- Will this choice bring me long-term fulfillment or will it bring me short-term gratification?
- Am I standing in my power or an I trying to please another?
- Am I looking for what’s right or am I looking for what’s wrong?
- Will this choice add to my life force or will it rob me of my energy?
- Does this choice empower me or does it disempower me?
- Will I use this situation as a catalyst to grow and evolve or will I use it to beat up on myself?
- Is this an act of self-love or is it an act of self-sabotage?
- Is this an act of faith or is it an act of fear?
- Am I choosing from my divinity or am I choosing from my humanity?
Well there they are, and don’t they cut to the heart of the matter? You can see why I had to share this with you, I love them. I have some other questions like the one above that I use from time to time, but I think that these are enough for now ![]()
After you use these questions on yourself and your life, come back and tell me what insights you gained from using them, I would love to chat about this with you.
